AMCATS Lose Conference Matchup to Lasell

PAXTON, Mass – Saturday afternoon the AMCATS hosted their second GNAC game of the week. After losing the first to Johnson & Wales earlier in the week, the Lasers came to town looking for their second win of the season, and second win in conference. At the end of 60 minutes they did just that, besting the AMCATS 10-4.

The AMCATS had four different scorers in the game, most of them the usual suspects. Cameron Perry had a goal and two assists in the game. Brandon Pavoni, Jake Klemba, and Malik Griffith scored the other three for the cats. Goalie, Paul Schwarz faced 44 shots in the game, saving 34 of them.

Lasell got a three goal performance out of Ryan Madden. Madden added three assists to his score line. Andrew Fidalgo and Alex McCormack-Kuhman scored two goals in the game. Fidalgo assisted on two other goals. Greg Klaum, Austin Shindoll, and Austin Tomasetti all had single goal days for the Lasers rounding out their scoring. Goalie, Ryan Janovic saw just 13 shots in the game and saved nine of them.

Lasell dominated the first quarter, scoring three goals unanswered from the sticks of Klaum, who scored first four and a half minutes in, then from Fidalgo and Shindoll, taking a 3-0 lead at the end of the first 15 minutes.

The 'Cats opened the scoring in the second quarter when Perry scored with 11:54 on the clock, assisted by Ryan Rockwal. Lasell scored just 42 seconds later to get their previous three-goal lead back. Now up 4-1, the Lasers went on to score two more in the period, matching their three-goal unanswered run from the first period. Madden and Fidalgo scored those goals giving their team a 6-1 lead going in to the half.

Madden scored first in the third quarter, five minutes in, extending the unanswered run to four goals. Now 7-1, the AMCATS got a goal from Griffith cutting the lead to five. Then, with 34 seconds left in the quarter, McCormack-Kuhman scored his second goal. At the end of 45 minutes, Lasell had a six goal lead.

Lasell opened that lead to eight goals at the beginning of the fourth quarter, scoring two goals in the first four minutes, from Madden and Tomasetti, both unassisted. Two minutes after the final Lasell goal was scored, Klemba netted his goal. With 9:27 still left on the clock, the AMCATS defense playing well, it looked like they may have a chance to come back. The Lasell defense had other ideas not allowing a goal on their end either until Pavoni scored a man-up goal with 1:21 on the clock. It wouldn't be enough as that was the end of the scoring production for either team, finishing the game, 10-4, in favor of Lasell dropping the AMCATS to 2-7 on the year, 0-2 in conference.

Anna Maria are back on the field Wednesday, April 4th on the road against Albertus Magnus College at 7pm.
