AMCATS Fall Hard in Boston

BOSTON, Mass – Coming off of a loss on Saturday to Eastern Connecticut, the Anna Maria men's lacrosse team travelled to Boston on Monday night to play the 4-1 Wentworth Leopards. The Leopards record held true as they beat the AMCATS 20-5.

For the AMCATS, Brady Seymour led the offense with two goals on just two shots in the game. GNAC Rookie of the Week, Cameron Perry, added a goal and an assist to the 'Cats tally. Senior Andrew Marcotte netted his second goal of the season. Jake Klemba continued his scoring ways, adding a goal, his 11th of the season, which is tied with Brandon Pavoni for the team lead. GNAC Goalie of the Week, Paul Schwarz, faced 46 shots from the Leopards offense. He saved 26 of them but unfortunately, 20 made it to the back of the net.

Wentworth got a six goal performance from Dolan McCarthy who also added an assist. Riley Smith and Jacob Eldred netted three goals each, Eldred also assisted on five other goals. Kyle Doner scored two goals for the home team, adding an assist. Leopards goalies Scott Boucher and Adam Dufault split the game in net. Boucher, who started, allowed three goals on six shots faces. Dufault allowed two goals and saved six of the eight shots he saw.

The game started off well for the AMCATS with Klemba scoring two and a half minutes in. After that, things shifted quickly to the other side. Wentworth scored four unanswered goals, their first at the 9:14 mark and last at the 20 second mark, to close out the period.

With a 4-1 lead after 15, the Leopards has the momentum and used it to their advantage, scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the second period. Now on a 6-0 run in the last 14 minutes, Wenworth had a 6-1 lead. The 'Cats broke through with just over 10 minutes left in the half with a goal from Seymour. The teams would trade goals over the next three minutes with Matt Larson scoring for WIT and Seymour netting his second. With a 7-3 advantage with four minutes left and a man in the penalty box, the Leopards got a goal from Ben Coakley. To finish out the half, McCarthy netted his second with 38 second left in the first half which game the Home team a 9-3 lead heading in to the locker room.

The half time talks didn't change much on either side as Wentworth would match and then beat their 6-0 run from the first half, scoring the first seven goals of the third period which, going back to the secnd quarter, was a nine goal unanswered run. Up 16-3 with two and a half left in the period, Perry and Marcotte scored 45 seconds apart to close the gap to 16-5.

In the fourth, the AMCATS were blanked by the Leopards and Wentworth went on to score four in the period to give them the 15-goal, 20-5 lead which would ultimately end up being the final score.

With the loss, the 'Cats fall to 2-3 on the season. Anna Maria will be back on home turn Thursday at 5pm against Benedictine out of Illinois.
