AMCATS fall to Goldenbears in season opene

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Twelve players scored goals as the Western New England men's lacrosse team posted a 21-1 victory over visiting Anna Maria in the season and The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener for both squads Saturday afternoon (Feb. 26).

Freshman attacker Justin McKinney (Niskayuna, NY) led the Golden Bears with two goals and three assists in his collegiate debut.

Junior midfielder Jonathan Roy (Lewiston, ME), freshman attacker Adam Knapton (Canandaigua, NY), and freshman midfielder Sean Lawton (Abington, MA) each contributed a pair of goals and assists.

Senior midfielder Mike Murray (North Baldwin, NY) and freshman midfielder Colton Craig (Gales Ferry, CT) added three goals apiece while freshman attacker Mike Donahue (South Windsor, CT) chipped-in with a goal and three assists. Senior midfielder Marty O'Brien (West Springfield, MA) had two goals and an assist.

Freshman midfielder Kris Woodcock (Clifton Park, NY) picked-up a team high six ground balls while sophomore defender Philip McLean (Wilbraham, MA) had five.

Western New England led 8-0 after the opening period and stretched the margin to 11-0 when Lawton scored at the 9:02 mark of the second quarter.

The AMCATS finally got on the board when sophomore attacker Chris Summers (Morris, NJ) netted a goal with an assist from Alex Natterstad (Upton, MA) with 5:51 remaining before the break. Sophomore goalie Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, MA) stopped 15 shots for the visitors.

The Golden Bears had a commanding 56-11 advantage in shots.
