Shawn Conrad has been the Head Coach of the Anna Maria men’s basketball program since the 2006-07 season. He is the seventh head coach in program history and will be entering his 17th season in 2023-24. Overall he will be entering his 36th season as a coach, 27 of those as a head coach across all levels and eight seasons as an assistant coach.

On February 9, 2022, Conrad coached the AMCATS to an 89-83 win at home over visiting Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. That victory gave Coach Conrad 168 wins at Anna Maria, breaking the previous school wins record set by legendary AMCAT coach Paul Phillps. After the 2022-2023 season Conrad has led  his AMCAT teams to 178 career leading wins.  During the 2021-2022 season, the team went 15-11 on the year, reaching the GNAC semifinals as senior guard Ralph Grasso, Jr. (Marlborough, MA) and sophomore forward Gabe Armstead (Dallas, GA) were voted to the All-Conference team, with Armstead also being named to the All-Rookie team. In August 2022, Conrad was recognzied by the Collegiate Basketball Officials' Association (CBOA) with its annual Sam Schoenfeld Award, for exemplifying "the highest degree of sportsmanship, character, and ethics among their players, coaches and spectators."

Prior to arriving to Anna Maria, Conrad had head coaching stints at St. Peter-Marian HS, Quinsigamond CC, and Fitchburg State University. He also was an assistant at Assumption College, Holy Cross College, Bryant University, and Anna Maria. Over the course of his head coaching career, he has accumulated 340 wins, the last 171 coming at Anna Maria. During that time, he has been honored by his peers as Coach of the Year four times, in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2020. He received similar honors as Region 21 Coach of the Year on three occasions while at Quinsigamond CC, where his teams compiled an overall record of 131-55 over his six seasons there.

During his tenure at Anna Maria, Conrad has led the AMCATS to two regular season conference titles (2011,2013) and played in back to back Conference Championship games in 2012 and 2013. His teams qualified for the postseason ECAC tournament five times, 2011,2012,2013,2015 and 2016. The 2013 team put together the longest winning streak in school history with 17 consecutive wins, and for the 1st time in seventeen years and 5th time in the schools, history topped the 20 win mark, finishing 21-9. His teams have recorded over 100 conference victories and annually play one of the most challenging non-conference schedules in the region.

In the 2019-20 season, the AMCATS secured a home playoff berth for the 1st time since 2016 and defeated St Joseph’s College of Maine for their 1st GNAC playoff win since 2013. They went on to lose to eventual champion St Joseph’s College of CT 94-79 in a hard fought battle in the semifinals. Last season was canceled due to the COVID pandemic.
