Men's Basketball Struggles in Providence

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Men's Basketball Team was defeated by conference opponent Johnson and Wales this afternoon 71-46 in Providence Rhode Island.

 

Records:

Anna Maria: 7-16, 3-7 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 12-11, 8-2 GNAC

Statistical Leaders:

Brian Hogan-Gary (JWU): 28 points, 15 rebounds, 5 steals
Randall Ferdinand (JWU): 16 points, 4 rebounds
Bobby Perette (AMC): 14 points

 

Of Note:

The Wildcats built a 26-15 lead at the five-minute mark of the first half on a Brian Hogan-Gary jumper. The AMCATS finished the opening period on an 8-4 run to close the halftime margin to 30-23.

 

JWU's lead got trimmed to 37-29 on a Bobby Perette three-pointer just three minutes into the second half.

From there the Wildcats kick the defense into overdrive as AMC would only score two points the next 11 minutes, allowing JWU to take a 60-31 lead on a Randall Ferdinand jumper with 6:26 left in the game.

 

In the second half the Wildcats 53.3 percent from the floor while holding the visitors to 33.3 percent and forcing AMC into 11 turnovers. JWU got nearly half of its points off AMCAT miscues.

 

Notching his fourth double-double in a row was Hogan-Gary as he dropped in 28 points and corralled 15 rebounds. Ferdinand was next on the team with 16 points.

 

Perette was the only Anna Maria player in double figure with a team-best 14 points.

The AMCATS will be back on in action this Wednesday as they travel to Emmanuel for their last road game of the year. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
