AMCATS Sweep Season Series Against Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass – After beating Suffolk last Tuesday night on their home court, the AMCATS travelled to Boston to take on the Rams once again. Knowing they were facing opponent they had beaten just seven days ago, Anna Maria did it again, sweeping the season series with a 63-42 victory.

For the AMCATS, senior forward Kenneth Graham (West Haven, Conn) led all scorers with 18 points on the night on eight-of-11 shooting. He added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals to his score line. Coming off the bench to score 13 for the visitors, junior guard Sidney Limage (Randolph, Mass) scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass) recorded his 19th double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 19 rebounds in the win.

The Rams were led by freshman guard Brendan Mulson (Albany, N.Y.) with 13 points. He was tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven. Sophomore guard Thomas Duffy (Fairfield, Conn) was the only other Ram in double-digits with 11 points and seven rebounds.

At the beginning, the AMCATS jumped out to an 8-5 lead five minutes in to the game. The Rams would tie the game after five and a half minutes had ticked off the clock in the first half. From that point, things didn't look great for the AMCATS as Suffolk went on a 13-0 run. Finally, the 'Cats started to grab some of the momentum back, closing the deficit little by little. After a missed Rams three, Rapoza grabbed a rebound and the AMCATS got a bucket from Limage to pull back within two points with 2:25 to play. Though the next two minutes were relatively quiet in terms of scoring, the AMCATS tied the ballgame back up at 24 apiece with 33 seconds left on the clock with a made bucket by senior guard Liam Pickett (Oxford, Mass) and that, 24-24, would be the halftime score from Boston.

The second half was slow to start. Though the AMCATS scored the first bucket 30 seconds in, neither team would reach 30 points until the 16:02 mark when the Rams took a four-point lead over their guests. From there, Suffolk would hold a lead until seven and a half minutes had passed in the period and Rapoza tied the game at 35. That is the points in the game where Anna Maria would grab the momentum and never let go. Over the next six and a half minutes, the AMCATS went on a 19-0 run giving them a 54-37 lead with six minutes to play. The 'Cat's defense held the Rams to just 18 points in the second half, which would give Anna Maria the conference victory, 63-42, and move them in to the eighth and final playoff spot with three games to play.

Next up for the AMCATS will be a trip to Nashua, N.H. to take on Rivier University on Friday evening at 6pm
