Pickett Scores 12 In AMCAT Loss

AMHERST, Mass – Coming of a loss to Bowdoin the AMC Men's basketball team wanted to get back on track on Tuesday night against 21st ranked Amherst College. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so as the Mammoths rolled to a 78-41 victory on their home floor.

Leading the way for the visitors was senior guard Liam Pickett (Oxford, Mass) who scored 12 points on the evening. He shot five-for-eight from the field and was two-of-two from beyond the arch in 20 minutes of play for the AMCATS. Sophomore forward, Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass) was the only other AMC player in double digits as he scored 10.

For the Mammoths, two starters went in to double digits. Sophomore forward Eric Sellew (Carlisle, Mass) led all scorers on the night with 15. Senior guard Johnny McCarthy (Medfield, Mass) scored 11 for the home team. Coming off the bench to score 12 was freshman forward Fru Che (Somerville, Mass).

It was a tough night from the onset for the visiting AMCATS as they were unable to crack the 25-point mark in either half of play. Though things were close for the first 10 minutes of the first half the Amherst defense was stingy only allowing the 'Cats to put up 22 giving them a 38-22 lead at the break. In the second it was more of the same from the Mammoth defense allowing only 19 points from Pickett and crew while scoring 40 of their own to put this one away 78-41.

Next up for the AMCATS will be the Nichols College Bison at home on Saturday, December 9th at 12pm.
