Worcester St. Downs Field Hockey In Home Opener, 4-0

PAXTON, Mass. - The Anna Maria field hockey team (0-1) dropped their home opener against the Worcester St. Lancers (1-0) in non-conference action Saturday morning at AMCAT field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams played a tightly contested first half as the AMCATS only allowed nine shots for the Lancers but were heled scoreless thanks to the solid goaltending of Cassandra Mickelsavage (Pottstown, PA) who made a total of 10 saves on the day.
  • Deadlocked at 0-0 midway through the third quarter, Worcester St. broke the tie scoring after they capitalized on a scramble in front of the net. The Lancers then tagged on two more goals later on in the quarter to get a 3-0 lead. Finally, early in the fourth, the Lancers added an insurance goal to make it 4-0.
  • Anna Maria continued to apply pressure throughout the second half but just could not generate any offense thanks to the Lancers defensive play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Mickelsavage's 10 saves were only two behind her career-high of 12 last season against Johnson&Wales (October 23, 2018).

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS will have a few days off before their next matchup as they travel to Salem State on September 5, 2019, at 4:00 PM.  Worcester St. will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Clark University for a 1:00 PM contest.
