Lyons Claw Past AMCATS in Field Hockey, 2-0

Paxton, Mass. –Junior Tracy McCann (Belmont, Mass.) netted two goals, as the Wheaton College field hockey team defeated Anna Maria by a score of 2-0 at AMCAT field on Tuesday night. With the win the Lyons improve to 2-1 on the year, while the AMCATS drop to 1-1 on the season.

McCann led the way for the Lyons with four points, putting six shots on net. Classmate Emily Chick (Bangor, Maine) added an assist and goaltender Madison Wolters (Marstons Mills, Mass.) collected six saves for the shut-out.

The Lyons first score of the game came at the 23rd minute mark, McCann delivered a hard shot inside the left post after pressure from an offensive corner. AMCAT netminder Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, NH) had made the initial save but McCann picked up the rebound.

Anna Maria could only muster three shots on goal in the first half but held the edge 7-6 in penalty corners.

The Lyons doubled the score with twelve minutes remaining in the contest. Chick delivered a pass from the right wing to McCann for her second marker.

Breen made 15 saves on the day for AMC, while teammates Amanda Hebert (South Deerfield, Mass.) and Nicole Morrison (Rutland, Mass.) each posted defensive saves. Sophomore Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) led Anna Maria with six shots on net.

Anna Maria returns to action on Thursday when the travel to Eastern Connecticut for a 4:00 pm tilt.
