2012 Field Hockey Captains Announced

Paxton, Mass. – Seniors Shannon Looney (Leicester, Mass), Brooke Denver (New Britain, Conn.) and Marybeth McClune (Worcester, Mass.) will captain the 2012 edition of the Anna Maria College field hockey team, head coach Sharon Zenevitch announced recently.

"Since my arrival last season, Shannon, Brook and Marybeth have consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, a high level of commitment to their teammates, a positive attitude and the willingness put the success of the team ahead of their own," said Zenevitch, the 2011 NECC Coach of the Year.

"Their dedication to the program and their drive to succeed on and off the field will play an integral role in helping to bring our team together for a successful season."

As a junior McClune started all 20 matches for the AMCATS, she scored a team-high 12 goals and ranked second on the team with 24 points. Marybeth was named NECC Player of the Week on September 12th.

An NECC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2011, Looney was an integral part of the AMCATS defense. Looney also started all 20 games for the AMCATS; she had an assist in a crucial 5-3 win over NECC opponent Daniel Webster to help secure a playoff spot.

"I'm honored to be named a Captain of the 2012 AMCATS field hockey team. Last year we realized that we really have the potential to go all the way to the conference championship," said Looney, "The odds have always been against our squad but we proved that we're willing to work hard from start to finish. All of us are very excited about the season ahead."

Denver is coming off a career high season; the midfielder set personal bests in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12). Brooke started all 20 games for Anna Maria and scored AMC's lone goal in the NECC Championship. With a healthy 2012 campaign Brook can challenge the school record for games played in a career (74).

The 2012 squad will open up the season in early September.
