Becker Edges AMC as Time Expires, 2-1

Leicester, Mass.- Senior Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) scored the game winner with no time remaining in regulation, giving Becker a dramatic 2-1 win over Anna Maria in New England Collegiate Conference field hockey action.

The AMCATS found the back of the net in the 40th minute when Marybeth McClune (Worcester, Mass.) was fed near the left post by Katherine Bant (Johnstown, N.Y.) for the 1-0 lead.The Hawks answered back in the 47th minute when Brooke Cote (Fitchburg, Mass.) tossed a shot on net, Michelle Griczika (Barre, Mass.) redirected the shot, tying the game at 1-1.

The score remained the same until Becker drove the ball down the field with 28 seconds remaining on the clock. As time expired the Hawks earned three different penalty corners. Finally on the third corner Victoria Sirchia blasted a shot from the top of the key; which snuck past Anna Maria goalkeeper Marita Steinmetz (Grafton, Mass.), securing the dramatic 2-1 win for the Hawks.

Steinmetz made seven saves on the evening as Anna Maria fell to 5-9 overall and 2-1 in the NECC. The AMCATS get back to work on Saturday morning when they travel to Regis College for a 10:30 tilt with the Pride.

Becker keeper Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) turned away three Anna Maria shots as the Hawks improved their record to 5-10 overall and 2-1 in the NECC.
