PAXTON, Mass. (10.29.11) – On a snowy afternoon the Anna Maria College women's field hockey defeated Elms College 5-0 in New England Collegiate Conference action today at AMCAT Field. With the win the AMCATS qualify for the post-season in their first year in the NECC.

Anna Maria finishes their regular season with a 7-11 record (4-2 NECC), while Elms finishes 2011 at 2-13 (1-5 NECC).

In a pre-game ceremony Coach Sharon Zenevitch honored her senior players for their dedication to the field hockey program. Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.), Mary Moroski (Worcester, Mass.) and Marissa McCann (Webster, Mass.) were all recognized before the game.

Anna Maria was led by junior Marybeth McClune (Worcester, Mass) and freshman Katherine Bant (Johnstown, NY) who each scored a pair of goals. Katie Schebel added a goal, two assists and a defensive save in her regular season finale.

With the turf still green and just a few snowflakes flying Anna Maria scored the first half's only goal at 27:31 when McClune one-timed a tipped Schebel pass into the back of the net.

Quickly the weather deteriorated as the second half progressed. Katherine Bant made it 2-0 just 3:24 into the half with a drive past Elms' keeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.). Forward Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) picked up the assist.

McClune scored her second goal of the game and her 12th of the season unassisted at the 48th minute, Schebel scored unassisted just 5 minutes later for a 4-0 lead. Bant scored the games' final goal at 57:51.

AMC's goaltender Marita Steinmetz (Grafton, Mass.) made one save for the shutout, her counterpart who played exceptional in the loss made 19 saves.
