Football Falls Short versus Alfred State

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Football team fell to Alfred State this afternoon in conference play 30-28 in Alfred New York.

 

Offensive Numbers

 

The Pioneers (1-8, 1-4 ECFC) were led in the passing game by Carter Harman who only attempted 9 passes and completed just three of the for 102 yards. He completed a pass for 60 yard as a long and throw for 2 touchdowns. The bulk of the offense came on the ground as Ronnie Clark had 34 carries for 209 yards. Clark was averaged 6.1 yards a carry and was also able to find the end zone twice. Jalen Long was on the receiving end of one of Harman's touchdown tosses for 60 yards. Cade Marks also caught one ball from Harman for a score that was from 28 yards out.

 

The AMCATS (1-8, 1-4 ECFC) went to the air 40 times throughout the contest, with all passes coming from Alex Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.). Cohen was able to complete 21 passes for 228 yards, with a long of 26 yards, as well as rushing for 11 yards and one touchdown. The Running game was all Michael Lopez (Sleepy Hollow, NY) who had 23 touches for 84 yards and 3 scores on the day. Lopez also caught 4 passes out of the backfield for an additional 31 yards. Hayden Braga (Foster, RI) led Anna Maria in receptions with 6 that accumulated to 77 yards.

 

Defensive Numbers    

 

Alfred State's John Lauretti led the defense with 12 total tackles with 5 going for a loss totaling 22 yards. Lauretti was also able to force a fumble and had 2 sacks. Kyle Backert also broke double digits in tackles with 11.

 

Anna Maria was led once again by Nedrion Payne (Waterbury, Conn.) as he accumulated 12 tackles of his own. Payne was followed by Tyshawn Anderson (Lynn, Mass.) who was able to bring down the ball carrier 8 times.

 

The Pioneers will travel to take on Castleton University next Saturday for a 1:00 PM start.

 

The AMCATS will finish their seasons next Saturday as they travel to take on Dean in conference action at 12:00 PM.
