Anna Maria Football players receive ECFC Weekly Honors

Hans and McLean recognized for AMCATS after win over Alfred State 

                PAXTON, Mass. – Two standouts on the Anna Maria College football team were honored for their performances in last Saturday's victory over Alfred State College with weekly honors from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC).

                Junior defensive end Emmanuel Hans (Lowell, Mass./Kennedy (N.Y.) was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman linebacker Brian McLean (Montgomery, Ala./Robert E. Lee) was selected ECFC Rookie of the Week. They were key players as Anna Maria recorded its first victory of the season, a 36-34 triumph over Alfred State College. They are the first two AMCATS to receive weekly honors from the ECFC this season.

                A 6-2, 225-pound defensive end, Hans was a menace for the AMCAT defense. He finished with 10 total tackles (five solo, five assisted), and recorded two-and-a-half sacks for a minus-11 yards as well. His first sack came on third down midway through the third quarter for force an Alfred State punt; he added a half sack later in the quarter on third down, and followed up with another sack in the fourth quarter. Hans also had one other sack taken away by an AMCAT penalty.

                A 6-4, 205-pound linebacker, McLean also collected two-and-a-half sacks for a minus-15 yards among his seven total tackles (three solo, four assisted). His first sack came on the final play of the first half with Alfred State in Anna Maria territory; he teamed with Hans for another sack in the third quarter, and added his final sack in the fourth quarter with Anna Maria leading 36-20. McLean leads the ECFC with 7.5 sacks on the season.

                The AMCATS, 1-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play, is home again this Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off against ECFC-leading Husson University (6-1, 4-0).
