Brett Holmgren begins his fourth season with Anna Maria College baseball having recently been elevated to Associate Head Coach.  Coach Holmgren will continue to work the infielders, outfielders, and hitters as well as coaching third base.  2019 saw the AMCATS continue to improve winning more games than in 2018 while also improving in nearly every offensive and pitching statistical category.  Highlighting the season were Jack Marzec (Northbridge, MA) being named GNAC Pitcher of The Year and Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA) being named GNACC Rookie of the Year.  Both Marzec and Drosidis were named to the First Team All-GNAC.  Second Team All-GNAC honors went to Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, MA) and Greg Gehring (Southold, NY) was named to the Third Team All-GNAC while also being recognized as the GNAC All-Defensive Team catcher.  Seven members of the baseball program were named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team and members of the program participated in their annual community service event at the St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Worcester, Massachusetts.

In Coach Holmgren’s first year with the AMCATS, the team qualified for the GNAC Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2012.  Additionally, the team earned the most wins for Anna Maria since 2013 in a single season.   Working under Coach Briand his first season, Holmgren assisted in developing Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA), the 2018 GNAC Rookie of the Year, Noah Holland (Sandwich, MA) and GNAC All-Conference player and GNAC Gold Glove Pitcher, Jack Marzec (Northbridge, MA).

Prior to joining the Anna Maria College baseball team, Coach Holmgren was an Assistant Coach with Endicott College in 2016 and 2017.  He worked with the infielders and served as the Assistant Hitting Coach.  In his two seasons with Endicott, Coach Holmgren helped mentor 11 All Commonwealth Coast Conference players, including two-time CCC Player of the Year, Mike Kochiss and had a 59-34 record.  During the summers of 2016 and 2017, he was an Assistant Coach with the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League working with the catchers, infielders and assisted in hitting.  He also ran the MV Sharks Youth Coaching Clinics.  In the fall of 2017, Coach Holmgren was Head Coach of a team in the Worcester area all-star GSBA Fall Showcase League.  Before joining the Endicott College Gulls, he spent four seasons coaching with Post 64 Legion Baseball.

As a collegiate player, Holmgren spent his first two seasons playing at Catawba College in 2010 and 2011 in the South Atlantic Conference where he was a member of the SAC championship team in 2011 and participated in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament both years.  After red-shirting at Endicott College in 2012 due to wrist surgery, Holmgren helped his Endicott College team win the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in 2013 and 2014 while advancing to the NCAA Division II Regional Finals both years.

During his two seasons as a first baseman for Endicott College, Holmgren earned All-CCC honors both years and was named the ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove recipient at First Base in 2013 and 2014.  He was also named to the NEIBA All-New England Team as a junior.

In the summer of 2013, he played for the FCBL Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, helping his team win the Futures Collegiate League Championship.

Holmgren graduated from Endicott College in 2014 with a degree in Sports Management and a Certificate in Coaching.
