Marzec and Drosidis Take Pitcher and Rookie of the Year Honors in GNAC All-Conference Release

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Baseball Team had four athletes make the Great Northeast Athletic Conferences All-Conference list for their performances this past season. The AMCATS also took home two of the four major awards, along with one on the All-Defensive Team.

Jack Marzec (Northbridge, Mass.) made it onto the GNAC’s First Team and was named Pitcher of the Year after having twelve appearances this season. In those twelve games Marzec finished with a ERA of under four with a 3.42. He pitched 63.2 innings this season and accumulated 72 strikeouts, good enough for best in the conference.

Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.) also made First Team along with being named Rookie of the Year by the GNAC as an infielder. Drosidis put up impressive numbers throughout his freshmen campaign, finishing with a slash line of .363 AVG/.457 OBP/.622 SLG. Kosta compiled 37 runs batted in, which is good enough for fourth all-time in a single season. He also added eight homeruns which put him in second all-time in a single season.

Making Second Team was Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) as a utility. Twitchell played all over the field this season due to injury and made an instant impact at all the positions he played. Being the team’s starting centerfielder and having to play first and third base isn’t an easy task, but he made it look easy. Adam also finished his second season with the AMCATS hitting a .308 average with one homerun and 21 RBI’s.

Making Third Team and the All-Defensive Team is Catcher Greg Gehring (Southold, NY). Greg also found himself fighting through injury throughout the season but fought to help the team succeed in conference play. Gehring boasts a .989 fielding percentage with an impressive 14 runners caught stealing. The most impressive aspect of his game is not found in the stat book, and that is his ability to hold runners by blocking every pitch that is in the dirt.

The AMCATS look forward to building on from this seasons successes, as they were able to make it to the GNAC tournament as the sixth seed.
