Baseball just Missed Sweep of Albertus

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Baseball Team split this afternoon contests with conference opponent Albertus Magnus, taking the first game 11-5 and dropping the second 11-10.

 

Records: Albertus 6-4, 7-4. Anna Maria 8-8, 8-9.

 

Game one

 

The Falcons tallied nine hits in game one that led to their five runs. Elijah Spataj had three of the hits with one being a homerun. Spataj was 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI's and a run scored. Joseph Matthews pick up two hits of his own with one run batted in, overall he was 2-for-3.

 

The AMCATS put together a thirteen hit ball game with freshmen Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.) leading the way for the third straight game. He was 2-for-2 in game one with a homerun and three RBI's to put his RBI total to seven for the week. Jackson Dobek (Natick, Mass.) finished the day going 1-for-4 with three run batted in and one run scored. Greg Gehring (Southold, NY) had a great day back in the lineup off of an injury going 2-for-4 with two runs pushed across.

 

Pitching

 

Nick Miller was not able to make it out of the third inning as he went two and a third with seven hits and five earned. He was tagged with the loss and will fall to 1-2 on the season.

 

Colin Pipkin (Peoria, AZ) was credited with the win after going four and two thirds innings improving him to 1-2 on the season. Pipkin gave up eight hits with four runs allowed. Liam Cunningham (Northbridge, Mass.) finished the game off for the AMCATS going two and a third allowing only one hit and continuing his perfect streak of a 0.00 ERA.

 

Game Two

 

Albertus jumped to a quick 10-2 lead through the first two innings, due to a six run second on a Spataj grand slam, giving him four more RBI's on the day. Joseph Matthews added two more runs batted in and was 2-for-2 in the second contest. Matt Warren also batted in two on a 1-for-5 game two, he also was plated two more times.

 

Dobek was able to lead it for the AMCATS going 2-for-3 with a team high three RBI's and one score. Drosidis also added to his RBI total for the week with two more giving him nine on a 2-for-4 second game with an additional two runs scored. Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was 1-for-5 at the dish batting in two runs and scoring three additional times.

 

Pitching

 

Brandon Fowler will be credited with the win improving to 2-0 on the season. He came in relief and pitched two innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. Dan DeBartolomeo was credited with the save his first on the season.

 

Joe Gemelli (Grafton, Mass.) was tagged with the loss making him an even 2-2 on the season. In his inning worth of work, he gave up four hits seven runs with only three being earned.

The AMCATS will be back in action tomorrow as they will take on Westfield State at 11:00 am at NEBC.
