Baseball Downed by Fitchburg

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Baseball Team fell to Fitchburg State this afternoon in non-conference action 8-5 at NEBC in Northborough Massachusetts.

Records: Fitchburg State (7-4), Anna Maria (7-7)

How It Happened

AMCATS jumped to an early lead with a three run bottom of the first inning, on a base clearing triple by Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.).

The Falcons would put one run on the board in the top of the second inning on an error and double play, cutting Anna Maria's lead to just 2 runs. Fitchburg would add one more in the third on a walk, stolen base, and a single. That would bring the deficit to just one at 2-3.

It wasn't until the fifth inning when the Falcons were able to tie up the score at 3 all when Nick Cordeau took home on a wild pitch.

The AMCATS would fall behind in the seventh when Cordeau got a hold of one and put up a three run homerun to go up 6-3.

The AMCATS would only score two more times in the bottom of the seventh and eighth to bring their run total to 5. The run in the bottom of the seventh was manufactured on a throwing error by the to get Drosidis on base, for Jackson Dobek (Natick, Mass.) up to hit a double into the left center gap that was missed play and found its way to the fence. The eighth inning score was on a Fili Veras (Sleepy Hollow, NY) single and an Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) double.

Fitchburg was able to keep pace with the AMCATS scoring one more run in the top of the eighth and ninth to keep their lead for the final of 8-5.
