Baseball Splits Tight Games with Trine

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Baseball Team split a two game series against Trine University, dropping the first 7-6 and winning the second 4-3 in Auburndale Florida.

 

Game one

 

Top Performers

 

The Thunder (1-0) were led by Thomas Rivet who batted 1.000 going 4-for-4 scoring 2 runs and batting in one. Chase Hall also batted 1.000 with an RBI going 3-for-3. Shayne Devine led the team in RBI's with 2 as he batted 500 in game one as he finished 2-for-4.

 

Adam Wheaton had a no decision as he went 4.2 innings giving up 8 hits, 2 earned runs, and had 6 strikeouts.

 

The AMCATS (3-1) had 7 out of their starting 9 get hits, with Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.), Greg Gehring (Southhold, NY), and Jason Shell (Sandwich, Mass.) all tied for the team high with 2 hits. Gehring and Drosidis both were able to tally 1 RBI in the game.

 

Nick Genatossio (Sutton, Mass.) was tagged with the loss after going 4.1 innings allowing 11 hits with 7 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

How it Happened

 

The AMCATS were scoreless through the first three innings finding themselves down 4-0 early. They were able to get on the board in the top of the fourth when they tallied a three sot on the Thunder to come within one at 3-4.

 

After a shutdown bottom of the fourth AMC added one more to tie it up at 4 all, but Trine was able to answer in their half inning with a 3 run job in the bottom of the fifth to put the 'CATS down 7-4.

 

The Game would end with the AMCATS getting two more in the sixth but it wasn't enough as they fell 7-6.

 

Game Two

 

Top Performers

 

Thunder (1-1) hitters only mustered four hits in game two, with Ricci getting one of those hits and one of only two RBI's.

 

Conner Dove was tagged with the loss after letting up 4 earned runs off of 6 hits with 3 strikeouts.

 

AMCAT (4-1) hitters were led by Jake Crevier (Ware, Mass.), he went 2-for-3 on the day with a team high 2 RBI's. Genatossio picked up another hit that pushed across one more run for AMC. Jason Shell was also 1-for-2 with the last RBI of the day.

 

Joe Gemelli picked up his first win of his young career, with a 4.2 innings pitched with only 1 earned run on 4 hits and 4 strikeouts.

 

How It Happened

 

Anna Maria was able to jump on top early scoring three of their four in the first two innings. The Thunder weren't able to get on the board until the third inning to cut the lead to just two.

 

The 'CATS added one more in the fifth to go back on top by three. That lead held up just until the next half inning when Trine was able to put up two to cut the lead to just one. The Thunder were able to get the tying and go ahead runs on in the seventh but AMC pitching was able to hold the runners in place and hold on to win 4-3.

Anna Maria will be back in action this Tuesday at 2 PM as they are set to take on RPI.
