Marzec and Shell Honored by GNAC

WINTHROP, Mass – Monday afternoon the Great Northeast Athletic Conference came out with the final weekly awards for the 2018 season. Winning two of the three weekly awards were AMCATS Jack Marzec (Northbridge, Mass) who was named Conference Pitcher of the Week, and Jason Shell (Sandwich, Mass) who was named Conference Rookie of the Week.

Marzec, a Freshman, pitched Saturday against Rivier in a must-win to secure a GNAC Tournament berth. In that game he pitched five innings, allowing no runs on just two hits and struck out 11, walking just three. He had a no-hitter heading into the fifth inning. Jack earned the win in the AMCATS 5-0 victory over the Raiders.

Shell slashed .500/.563/1.071 for a 1.634 OPS in a 2-2 week. Jason's bat came alive as he had four extra base hits, including two doubles early in the week and two home runs, both of which came in the team's GNAC and regular season doubleheader finale against Rivier on Saturday. He finished the week 7-for-14 at the plate with four RBI and seven runs scored.

Joining Jack and Jason on this week's conference Honor Roll is freshman infielder Jake Crevier (Ware, Mass). Crevier has a .500 week at the plate, 6-for-12, with six RBI and three runs scored.

The AMCATS will continue their season as the GNAC postseason begins on Wednesday afternoon. Opponent, venue and time are contingent on what happens in a conference series between St. Joe's (Maine) and Norwich tomorrow afternoon.
