Jakola Named GNAC Pitcher of the Week

WINTRHOP, Mass.—Sophomore Tanner Jakola (Leominster, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College baseball team has been tabbed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Corvias Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

It marks the first time this season that a member of the AMCAT squad has earned a weekly honor.

Jakola was the only pitcher in the league to maintain a 0.00 ERA through seven innings this week. He pitched a seven-hit complete-game shutout over Johnson & Wales on Saturday in game one of the doubleheader. He also helped himself at the plate with an RBI sacrifice-fly to plate one of the AMCATS' two runs.

The sophomore right-hander was the ace of the AMCAT staff this season, leading the team to four wins on a team-low 3.75 ERA. He pitched four complete games in 2016 and struck out 31 batters in 50.1 innings pitched.

The AMCATS concluded the 2016 campaign with Saturday's split with Johnson & Wales. The team posted a 9-28 overall record and a 5-9 record in conference play, their best league finish since 2013's 7-9 season.
