Softball Adds Two Alumni to the Coaching Staff

PAXTON, MASS: The Anna Maria Softball team is gaining two new assistant coaches for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Jackie Lapierre'18 will be joining the staff as the new outfielder's coach and Sabrina Carreira'19 will be taking on the role as the team's hitting coach. 

Jackie was a four year student-athlete at Anna Maria, playing both field hockey and softball for the AMCATS. She graduated in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. While on the softball team Lapierre played in 130 games, totaling 378 at bats, and 127 hits for a career batting average of .336. Jackie earned her way into the Anna Maria records books where she currently sits in 4th for most stolen bases in a career with 23. Jackie is also in 4th with the highest batting average in a single season with .459. Lapierre is a Worcester, Mass. native that took home the team MVP award for her performance in the 2018 season while playing almost every position. 

Sabrina was another four year athlete on the softball team at AMC from West Hartford, CT. Carreira ended her career holding down the middle infield for the AMCATS and taking home the GNAC hitting title during her 2019 season with a .479 batting average. Sabby has played in 132 games during her time here and accumulated 334 at bats, with 115 hits giving her a .344 career batting average. Carreira's name can also be found in the record books with her .479 BA putting her in the 3rd spot for best batting average in a single season. She is also 5th all-time with her .344 career average. Sabby won't just be bringing her knowledge on hitting to the team, but will bring her strong leadership skills. As of now Sabrina is working towards her master's degree in Business Administration at Anna Maria.

Jackie and Sabby have a lot to offer the program whether it's their leadership or skills, they will surely help us get to where we want to be" head coach Larry Sasso commented. Lapierre and Carreira will be joining Benny Sasso and Jennifer Eddy this coming season as the team's assistant coaches.
