Holmgren elevated to Associate Head Coach

PAXTON, MASS: The Anna Maria Baseball Team announced that Assistant Coach Brett Holmgren has been elevated to Associate Head Coach effective immediately.

“Brett has done so much for our program; he has been here since day one working tirelessly to help get us to the level we envisioned when we came here” said head coach Dan Briand “He is a rising star in college baseball and it won’t be long until a school hires him to lead their program. We are very fortunate to have a coach of his caliber on our staff and he’s been an asset beyond baseball, he has been an asset to our entire athletic program with his implementation of our strength and conditioning program school wide” Briand continued.

Coach Holmgren has been a trusted colleague and coach, that has shown his knowledge from the third base coaching box on game days for the AMCATS. “The time is right for this well-deserved promotion and we are excited for another strong season in 2020 and Brett will continue to play a huge role in the development of players and the program as a whole” Said Briand. Brett also brings a high level of skill with him to teach from his playing days at Endicott College, where he was awarded two Gold Gloves at first base.

Since joining the team 2 seasons ago the AMCATS have improved not only in the number of students on the roster with recruiting efforts, they have also improved on the field. The baseball team finished their 2019 season in the GNAC tournament with a record of 17-24. Not only did the AMCATS win more games than they did in 2018, they also improved again for the second consecutive year in almost every offensive and pitching statistical category in 2019.  Once again, players received numerous weekly GNAC conference awards as well as the 2019 GNAC Pitcher of the Year in Jack Marzec (Northbridge, MA) and 2019 GNAC Rookie of the year in Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA).  Both Marzec and Drosidis were also named First Team All-GNAC.  Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, MA) was named Second Team All-GNAC.  Greg Gehring (Southold, NY) was named Third Team All-GNAC, in addition, he was also recognized as the GNAC All Defensive Team catcher.

The AMCATS look forward to another year of improvements with the freshmen class coming in, along with the returning players.
