2020 Hall of Fame Spotlight: Matthew Brennan '04

PAXTON, MA – Men’s basketball player Matthew Brennan ‘04 will be inducted into the Anna Maria College Athletic Department Hall of Fame as a member of the 2020 Hall of Fame Class on Saturday, March 25, 2023. The Hall of Fame ceremony for the 2020 class was postponed due to a weather postponement and then the COVID pandemic. This marks the 7th Hall of Fame class at Anna Maria, the Hall of Fame was founded in 1993. The five 2020 inductees will join the 26 current Hall of Fame Members which include athletes, coaches, administrators and staff. The Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves through their involvement in Anna Maria’s athletic program and who have demonstrated outstanding character, leadership, commitment, and sportsmanship.

"The Hall of Fame Committee, athletics department, and the college is excited to induct the 2020 Hall of Fame Class into the Anna Maria College Hall of Fame on March 25th. This class has waited over two years for this rightfully deserved honor. This group joins a great group of Hall of Fame members," commented Joe Brady '96, Director of Athletics. "I am excited to be a part of my first induction ceremony and this special occasion for these four outstanding individuals. We also look forward to celebrating Kelly's accomplishments in the fall." 

During his four years as a member of the men’s basketball, Brennan amassed 1,665 points which ranks fourth all-time in program history. He averaged 17.5 points per game and made 678 field goals, which ranks third all-time. Along with his impressive career accomplishments, Brennan is third in most points in a game and field goals made when he dropped 43 points on 17 makes in a game against Becker (12/3/04).

Brennan also appears numerous times in the program record book with four top-10 records: 767 rebounds (3rd), 543 defensive rebounds (3rd), 79.7 free throw percentage (5th) and 224 offensive rebounds (6th).

Brennan was named 2002-2003 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Co-Player of the Year. He earned All-Conference First Team honors in his junior and senior season and was named honorable mention in his sophomore season.

Brennan graduated from St. Peter Marian High School in 1999 and is currently working for Hanover Insurance Company as a Marian Technician.

David Shea ’93, Brennan’s former basketball coach at Anna Maria and former athletic director will present Matt for induction into the Anna Maria College Hall of Fame.

"Matt exemplified what it meant to be a true student athlete during his playing days at Anna Maria. He was an excellent student in the classroom and a Hall of Fame player on the court", commented Shea. "Matt was a player that coaches dreamed of having on their team. He was a silent leader who led by example. He took every practice and game seriously, always pushed himself to be the best he could be every time he stepped on the court and he was a pleasure to coach."
